Hello all My name is Samantha Simpson, I am the Brightstarters franchisee for East Devon. I am only 39! a mum of one Imogen (11) and stepmum to two (Hannah 13 and Bobby 10) I live with my husband by the sea in Seaton. I have worked with children in many roles for almost twenty years, As a Housematron in a boarding school, as manager at a children's activity centre and for the last ten years I have been a childminder and more recently as a Cub Scout Akela.
I joined Brightstarters as I enjoy working with children and believe that a good solid basic education is vital. Over the years of working in schools, and as a childminder to different aged children, I have seen children struggle with the basics of reading writing and spelling. When I started school in the early seventies it was the norm to be able to read and write your name before you started primary School. It seems now that this is left to schools when the children start school.
Brightstarters offers parents and their children the opportunity to learn skills to help with important tasks that are so vital in school and then later in life. I lke the informal structure of the classes where the children do not realise that they are learning but are having a great time! This is so important to show children learning is fun and not a chore. I am looking forward to starting my classes after half term and have had a fantastic reponse so far. no bookings yet though so keep fingers crossed for me!!
